The 2024 NFL schedule will feature each team playing 17 regular-season games and three preseason games for the fourth consecutive year. The 17th game will feature teams from opposing conferences that finished in the same standing within their respective divisions the previous season. The NFC will be the home conference for the 17th game in 2024. For how opponents were determined for the 2024 season, click here.

The NFL uses the power of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to power its schedule-making process. There are approximately a quadrillion possible schedule combinations each NFL season and over 26,000 factors to take into consideration such as stadium availability, travel requirements, primetime games, competitive fairness and division rivalries. The NFL uses AWS to run high performance computing workloads to find the best possible schedule each year.

The NFL’s 105th season begins with the league’s annual primetime kickoff game, as the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, September 5 (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC) in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game.

The two most recent winners of the Most Valuable Player award, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson (2023) and Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes (2022), are scheduled to face off for the sixth time in their careers, including the postseason. Should both players start as expected, Jackson (two-time MVP) and Mahomes (two-time MVP) would become the seventh different pair of quarterbacks to meet in a regular-season game after both players had won multiple MVP awards.

The NFL’s primetime kickoff game – which has been an annual tradition since 2002 – will feature a rematch of one of the previous season’s conference championship games for only the third time and first since 2010, when New Orleans defeated Minnesota in a rematch of the NFC Championship. The other instance was 2004, when New England defeated Indianapolis in a rematch of the AFC Championship.

On Friday, September 6 (8:15 p.m. ET, Peacock), the Green Bay Packers will meet the Philadelphia Eagles at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil, the first-ever regular season NFL game to be played in South America. It will mark the first time the NFL has played a game on Friday of their opening weekend in over 50 years, when the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams met on September 18, 1970.

Week 1 continues on CBS at 4:05 PM ET, with two head coaches making their Week 1 debut with their club as Antonio Pierce and the Las Vegas Raiders visit Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers in an AFC West showdown, while Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks, where Mike Macdonald will make his NFL head coaching debut. On FOX at 4:25 PM ET, the Dallas Cowboys visit the Cleveland Browns in a matchup of two 2023 playoff teams and the Washington Commanders, under new head coach Dan Quinn, travel to take on the reigning NFC South champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Later that day, NBC’s Sunday Night Football begins with Mathew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams visiting Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions (8:20 p.m. ET), in a rematch of last season’s NFC Wild Card round, in which the Lions earned their first playoff victory since 1991. NBC will televise one game each Sunday night in Weeks 1-17. Additionally, NBC will feature Miami at Green Bay (8:20 p.m. ET) on Thanksgiving night as well as Houston at Kansas City (1 p.m. ET) on Saturday in Week 16.

Kickoff Weekend concludes on Monday, September 9, with ESPN/ABC’s Monday Night Football, featuring Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets visiting Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers (8:15 p.m. ET). YouTube TV is the presenting sponsor of Kickoff Weekend, inclusive of the entire Thursday through Monday slate.

ESPN will televise one game each Monday night in Weeks 1-17 and will be simulcast on ABC in Weeks 1, 8, 14 and 17. In Weeks 3 and 4, there will be two Monday night games with broadcasts at 7:30 p.m. ET and 8:15 p.m. ET. In Week 7, there will be two Monday night games, with Baltimore at Tampa Bay on ESPN at 8:15 p.m. ET and the Los Angeles Chargers at Arizona on ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET. In Week 15, the two Monday night games begin 30 minutes apart, with Chicago at Minnesota at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Atlanta at Las Vegas at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Thursday Night Football will air exclusively on Prime Video, kicking off its slate in Week 2 with an AFC East matchup as the Miami Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills (8:15 p.m. ET). Prime Video will broadcast 15 Thursday Night Football games between Weeks 2-17 (excluding Thanksgiving night) and exclusively stream the second-ever NFL Black Friday game when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13 (3 p.m. ET).

The first-ever NFL games streamed on Netflix will be played on Christmas, Wednesday, December 25, in Week 17, as the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Pittsburgh Steelers (1 p.m. ET) and the Baltimore Ravens travel to face the Houston Texans (4:30 p.m. ET). Additionally, Netflix will stream at least one holiday game in 2025 and 2026.

NFL Network will exclusively televise seven games – four international games and three games in Week 17 on Saturday, December 28.

The NFL schedule features five international regular-season games – three in the UK, one in Germany and one in Brazil, marking the first-ever regular-season NFL game to be played in South America.

The international slate begins in Week 1 in Brazil with Green Bay and Philadelphia (8:15 p.m. ET, Peacock) and follows with games in three consecutive weeks, beginning in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Week 5 with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings (Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network). In Week 6, Jacksonville meets Chicago (Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the London action shifts to Wembley Stadium in Week 7, when the Jaguars will meet the New England Patriots (Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network). The Jaguars are scheduled to play two regular-season games outside of the United States for the second-consecutive season.

As part of the league’s commitment to playing regular-season games in Germany, the NFL will conclude the international slate of games in Munich in Week 10 as the New York Giants meet the Carolina Panthers (Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network). It will mark the league’s second game in Munich at Allianz Arena – Home of FC Bayern Munich and the fourth international regular-season game to be played in Germany.

The Madden Thanksgiving Celebration will feature a tripleheader on Thursday, November 28. The first game will feature a pair of NFC North foes, as the Bears travel to Detroit to face the Lions (12:30 p.m. ET, CBS). The late afternoon game will match two NFC East rivals, as the New York Giants visit the Dallas Cowboys (4:30 p.m. ET, FOX). The Thanksgiving Day festivities end with the Miami Dolphins traveling to Green Bay to face the Packers on NBC (8:20 p.m. ET).

The regular season will conclude with Week 18 on Saturday, January 4, and Sunday, January 5. For the 15th consecutive year, all 16 games scheduled for the final week of the season are division contests, enhancing the potential for more games with playoff ramifications.

The NFL’s 32 teams will each play 17 games over 18 weeks. Byes will begin in Week 5 and end in Week 14.

Additional 2024 schedule notes:

* Fourteen games will be Super Bowl rematches and nine 2024 games are rematches from the 2023 playoffs, including Super Bowl LVIII (Kansas City at San Francisco in Week 7), both Championship Games (Baltimore at Kansas City in Week 1; Detroit at San Francisco in Week 17) and all four Divisional playoff games (Tampa Bay at Detroit in Week 2; Kansas City at Buffalo in Week 11; San Francisco at Green Bay in Week 12; Baltimore at Houston in Week 17).
* The top-two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, are scheduled to meet in Week 8 when the Chicago Bears visit the Washington Commanders (1 p.m. ET, CBS). Should both players start, it would mark the sixth game in NFL history between rookie starting quarterbacks selected with the first and second overall picks in the NFL Draft. Williams and the Bears are also slated to play against No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye and the New England Patriots in Week 10 (1 p.m. ET, FOX) and No. 4 overall pick Marvin Harrison and the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 (4:05 p.m. ET, CBS).

The NFL will continue to use “flexible scheduling” this season to ensure exciting and meaningful games are available for viewing by the largest number of fans.

As in prior seasons, for Week 18, the final weekend of the season, the scheduling of the Saturday, Sunday afternoon, and the Sunday night games is not assigned. In Week 18, two games will be played on Saturday (4:30 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. ET) with the remainder to be played on Sunday afternoon (1 p.m. ET and 4:25 p.m. ET) and one matchup to be played on Sunday night (8:20 p.m. ET). Specific dates, start times, and networks for Week 18 matchups will be determined and announced following the conclusion of Week 17.

The NFL is the only sports league that presents all regular-season and postseason games on free, over-the-air television in local markets. All postseason games are distributed nationally.

Netflix has announced the three-episode docuseries “From Dreams to Tragedy: The Fire That Shook Brazilian Football,” following the tragic fire that took the lives of 10 young people at Ninho do Urubu, the Flamengo club’s training center, in Rio de Janeiro. The logline: Across three episodes, the documentary follows the professional careers of some of the fire’s survivors – young people who spent a part of their lives at Ninho do Urubu and whose careers have very much moved on. It also features journalists, football professionals and the victims’ families, as they continue to search for answers. In moving accounts, parents voice their pain and reveal how they have been fighting to get justice for their children since the tragedy occurred.

In addition to personal accounts, the series features never-before-seen images of the fire, and recreates moments from that night, through scenes dramatized and shot by director Pedro Asbeg. The reconstruction plays an important part in the debate about the causes of a tragedy that has left a lasting mark in the history of Brazilian football. In an effort to offer a social reflection in memory of the victims and to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again, it also deals with the direct consequences of the judiciary’s inertia with regard to the fire.

Released March 14, “From Dreams to Tragedy: The Fire that Shook Brazilian Football” is produced by A Fábrica from an original idea by UOL and developed by Pedro Asbeg, Renato Fagundes and UOL, and directed by Pedro Asbeg.

The way we consume entertainment has been completely transformed by the rise of online streaming services. Among the prominent platforms, Netflix stands out, providing a vast collection of TV shows and movies to its millions of global subscribers. Nevertheless, despite its impressive library, you may occasionally find some beloved shows like “NCIS” absent from Netflix’s offerings. This article aims to uncover the factors behind the absence of “NCIS” from your Netflix account, delving into issues such as licensing, contracts, and regional restrictions that play a significant role in shaping the content available on the platform..

Licensing Agreements and Exclusivity Deals

One of the primary reasons why “NCIS” may not be accessible on Netflix revolves around licensing agreements and exclusivity deals. TV networks and production companies often strike deals with streaming platforms or other networks to distribute their content. These licensing agreements can be region-specific and time-limited.

In the case of “NCIS,” the show might be exclusively licensed to another streaming service, which means Netflix does not have the rights to include it in their catalog. Exclusive deals offer substantial financial incentives to content creators, helping them fund future productions. Consequently, this creates a scenario where “NCIS” might be available on one streaming service but not on Netflix.

Geographic Restrictions and Regional Licensing

Another critical factor affecting the availability of “NCIS” on Netflix is regional licensing. Content creators and distributors often sell the rights to their shows and movies on a country-by-country basis. This means that a show available on Netflix in one country may not be accessible in another.

The complexity of obtaining rights for each region can result in Netflix having to navigate a complicated web of negotiations and agreements with various stakeholders. As a result, “NCIS” might not be available in your country due to the lack of a suitable licensing arrangement. Since the show is Exclusive to the US you’ll need to change your Netflix region.

Timing and Release Windows

Timing plays a vital role in determining when a show becomes available on streaming platforms like Netflix. After a show airs on traditional television, it typically follows a specific release window pattern before it becomes available for streaming. Networks may prioritize syndication deals or DVD sales before releasing the content on streaming platforms.

Given the popularity and longevity of “NCIS,” it is possible that the show is still within its initial broadcast or syndication period, which could delay its entry into the streaming world.

Removal Due to Contract Expirations

Netflix operates in a dynamic and competitive landscape, with content licensing agreements subject to change. While a show like “NCIS” may have once been available on Netflix, its contract might have expired. When these contracts conclude, Netflix has to decide whether to renew them or let the content go.

The decision to renew contracts depends on various factors, such as viewership numbers, cost, and the availability of alternative content. If Netflix decides not to renew the contract for “NCIS,” the show will no longer be available on the platform.

Different Libraries for Different Regions

Netflix has separate content libraries for different regions due to licensing complexities and agreements. As a result, the shows available in the U.S. library may differ significantly from the offerings in other countries. If you’re unable to find “NCIS” on Netflix, it might be worth checking if it is available on Netflix in another country where the show’s licensing rights have been secured.

Summary

The absence of “NCIS” on Netflix is a multifaceted issue influenced by licensing agreements, regional restrictions, timing, and contract expirations. While Netflix strives to provide a diverse range of content to its global audience, it must navigate through a complex landscape of deals and negotiations with content creators and distributors.

Viewers must acknowledge that streaming platforms like Netflix exert minimal influence on the availability of particular shows, especially those under exclusive licensing agreements. Nevertheless, the fluidity of the streaming industry implies that the presence of “NCIS” on Netflix may fluctuate over time. Meanwhile, fans have the option to explore alternative avenues to enjoy the show including other streaming services.

Highly regarded by most fans as their No. 1 favorite episode of the classic sitcom “Seinfeld“, “The Contest” debuted on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1992 on NBC.

Written by “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David, George Costanza (Jason Alexander) gets caught by his mother not being “master of his own domain” to Glamour magazine. She falls in shock and is sent to the hospital. Upon retelling his story at the diner, George vowed to Jerry Seinfeld, Kramer (Michael Richards) and Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to never do “that” again. They scoffed at the thought, disbelieving his promise. To make matters interesting, the four decide to wager money to test each other’s will to not do “that” the longest.

Throughout the episode, various temptations try to derail the four such as a naked woman in the apartment across the street from Jerry’s place, a nurse bathing a beautiful female patient at a hospital, and the late John F. Kennedy Jr. participating in fitness class.

An average of 18.5 million viewers tuned in to its original telecast, ranking third for its 9 p.m. slot that night, behind Part Two of ABC’s hit miniseries “The Jacksons: An American Dream” (38.3 million) and a two-hour episode of CBS crime drama “In the Heat of the Night” (18.6 million).

AIM Tell-A-Vision® Group (AIM TV) is kicking off a campaign against “Whack Weekends” on broadcast television. The company outlined four areas where it believes some producers and distributors of first-run syndication are misleading some affiliates and viewers. They are…

1)   Inappropriate Content – Mature-themed content featuring young women doing a jiggly array of so-called “sports” such as jump rope, crab walking, and more while dressed in bikinis. This content is often featured in a show presented as a “sports blooper” show, which is inappropriate during most of the broadcast day. In some cities, the show’s theoretical “sports” theme too often airs when families with young children watch.

2)   Lazy Content – Content from producers that feature Electronic Press Kits footage as the primary basis for shows rather than original material is lazy. Many of these same producers lazily insert a plethora of archaic “Be Right Back” or “Don’t Go Away” teasers or end credits that can last over one minute, seemingly to reduce the cost of their content.

3)   Jammed With Commercials – Content that is jammed with more than an industry-standard national commercial inventory load is driving viewers from broadcast TV. Research has shown that many viewers see such heavy loads of ads as negatively affecting their perception of the show and the stations on which the offending show(s) air.

4)   Non-Evergreen Dated Content – Content is presented as contemporaneous but is so dated and non-evergreen that it is uncompelling and irrelevant when it airs.

Robert G. Rose, the long-time broadcasting veteran, and President of AIM Tell-A-Vision (AIM TV) Group, has created the campaign, which features a short video available at 2Whack4Weekends.com and at aimtvgroup.com/toowhack and other platforms to help raise awareness of the issue.

“I’ve watched the quality of some weekend television decline even as viewers’ choices have exploded. This is a recipe for a death spiral that can certainly affect other dayparts,” explained Rose. “Programmers are tasked with overseeing more hours of content than ever. While it can be difficult to stay on top of and weed out the small number of producers and distributors that don’t seem to respect affiliates or viewers, we must,” Rose continues. “Only then can broadcasters have a healthy eco-system of producers of broadcast-first content that can compete with a plethora of other platforms. In a fragmented landscape, details matter, and weekends most definitely matter.”

From December 14 and 21, 2021, Programming Insider‘s Douglas Pucci was a guest on Northern Iowa’s Y100.1 FM with their longtime personality Scott Nolte to discuss the best and worst TV offered in 2021.

First, we’ll focus on the top five worst shows of 2021 in our opinion.

Douglas’ #5 — Ordinary Joe (NBC)
Among the fall entries, this drama takes this spot. The plot revolves around a guy who makes a decision on his graduation day and that sparks three more storylines. Unfortunately, all of them were unappealing.

Douglas’ #4 — Kenan (NBC)
There was much promise for this comedy. But this clone of CBS’ “The Unicorn” was absent of any laughs, which was surprising considering I’m a fan of Kenan Thompson on “SNL”.

Douglas’ #3 — Tiger King 2 (Netflix)
This falls into the category of trying to milk a dead cow. That cow is “Tiger King”, the wildly popular guilty-pleasure Netflix documentary from 2020. The streamer tried to extend that craze in November 2021, despite the absence of its two main personalities Joe Exotic (who’s in prison) and Carole Baskin (who refused to appear in new episodes). But its return was a mere rehashing of things we’ve already seen. I don’t want to revisit anything from the spring of 2020, let alone “Tiger King”. No thank you.

Douglas’ #2 — Pretty Smart (Netflix)
The inverse of “The Big Bang Theory” where an intelligent person resides with regular folk: a professor’s assistant (Emily Osment) gets dumped by her boyfriend long-distance while visiting her sister and her sister’s friends in Los Angeles. Every attempt at humor ventures towards cringey as any stereotype you could imagine about Gen-Z’ers is presented. By far, the worst scripted series of the year.

And my number one worst show of 2021, I’m coming for the king of romance reality shows…

Douglas’ #1 — The Bachelor/The Bachelorette (ABC)
To start the year, “The Bachelor” made history with its first Black bachelor. But what turned out to be the season’s top headline: the woman he selected once attended a plantation wedding. Shortly thereafter, Chris Harrison lost his hosting gig after 19 years following his combative interview with former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay on the newsmagazine “Extra.” But even if Harrison never had that incident and remained as host, the show still would have deserved worst billing. Within the recent decade, this franchise went globe-trotting with its contestants and delivered some whirlwind romances which made each season distinct. But since the pandemic, production’s limitations exposed what was lacking. It relied on the same gimmicks, same formats of dates, and usually lame and corny participants — most notably, former “Bachelor” contestant turned “Bachelorette” Katie and her beau, former multiple “Bachelorette” suitor Blake.

If there ever was a year to peg “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” as THE worst, 2021 was the year to do it.

Scott Nolte’s Worst of 2021
#10 — Call Me Kat (Fox)
#9 — Kenan (NBC)
#8 — Mr. Mayor (NBC)
#7 — Alter Ego (Fox)
#6 — Tiger King 2 (Netflix)
#5 — Clarice (CBS)
#4 — Turner & Hooch (Disney+)
#3 — The Masked Dancer (Fox)
#2 — The Celebrity Dating Game (ABC)
#1 — American Horror Stories (FX on Hulu)
Don’t waste your time! Even though they revisit the first season’s murder house, these episodes are a different experience from the “American Horror Story” franchise.

And now, Douglas’ best shows of 2021:

Honorable mentions (in no particular order): HBO Max series: “Hacks”, “Succession” and “The White Lotus”; “Sex Education” (Netflix), “Physical” (Apple TV+), “The Big Leap” (Fox), fall edition episodes of “Saturday Night Live” season 47 (NBC), “Survivor 41” (CBS), “Monday Night Football: ManningCast” (ESPN2)

Douglas’ #5 — The Conners (ABC)
Consider me a nostalgic. I grew up at a time when the network sitcom was king. I thoroughly enjoy “The Conners” as it stands now as it’s the best written scripted show on the broadcast networks right now. This current season is top notch thus far.

Douglas’ #4 — Mare of Easttown (HBO)
One of the year’s best limited series. Starring Kate Winslet as a former high school basketball phenom turned police detective who tries to solve the murder of a teen mom in a small Pennsylvania town. Terrific acting all around by Winslet, an already-legendary film actress, as well as from recent greats of the small screen: Jean Smart and the Emmy-winning Evan Peters. Its ending was surprising and confirming of an intense thriller.

Douglas’ #3 — Only Murders In The Building (Hulu)
I would not have expected the odd grouping of legendary comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short with pop music star/former kid actress Selena Gomez to generate magic. But it turned out to be the most suspenseful show of the year and the funniest show of the year. It well incorporated celebrity guest roles (e.g. Sting, Nathan Lane), and provided an engaging take on the true crime podcast craze as well as on the old-fashioned murder mystery.

Douglas’ #2 — The Circle (U.S. Netflix/UK Channel 4)
The reality show that well reflects our current times by borrowing the many aspects of social media and incorporating them in to a highly competitive format. The game involved a group of contestants, each member residing in their own respective apartment and can only communicate via their TV screens through an app called The Circle. Even moreso than the similar “Big Brother”, social game is at a premium. Every discussion, talking point and contest (proving non-physical challenges can be very engaging) tested the bonds among the players and attempted to alter their dynamic ever-so-slightly to shift the game’s balance of power. In 2021, there were two civilian U.S. seasons, a civilian UK season and British celebrity edition. All four of the cycles were a treat to watch.

#1 — The Hustler (ABC)
Quite fitting that my top four shows of the year involved solving mysteries and none of them were a generic crime drama.

Two decades ago, ABC introduced the reality show “The Mole” where a group of contestants must accomplish several tasks for a grand prize. But to win the money, one must best identify the saboteur playing amongst them. Another ABC show at the start of 2021 took that format, sprinkled some comedy (in the form of host Craig Ferguson) and turned us viewers into amateur detectives. It became the best new game show of recent time, and personally, it was a welcome communal experience as I was involved in several weekly text chains with fellow TV Tuesday partner Scott Nolte and my Uncle Anthony in Florida attempting to identify “the hustler.”

Scott Nolte’s Best of 2021
#10 — B Positive (CBS)
#9 — Coyote (Paramount+)
#8 — Sex Education (Netflix)
#7 — The Conners (ABC)
#6 — You (Netflix)
#5 — Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)
#4 — Marvel Studios: WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye (Disney+)
#3 — Yellowstone (Paramount Network)
#2 — Survivor 41 (CBS)
#1 — The Hustler (ABC)

Netflix has opted against a second season of adult animated series “Hoops” from Disney’s Twentieth Television, which follows Ben Hopkins (voice of Jake Johnson), a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks turning around his God-awful team will take him to the big leagues and turn his miserable life around.

“Hoops” is the latest Netflix series to end after a single season, joining “Away,” “Tuca & Bertie,” “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” “Soundtrack and Messiah,” among others, along with the COVID-related cancellations of “I Am Not Okay With This” and “The Society” after they were initially renewed for second seasons.
