Household Rating/Share
NBC: 5.0/ 9, Fox: 3.7/ 6, CBS: 3.5/ 6, ABC: 2.9/ 5, CW: 0.6/ 1

Percent Change From Year-Ago Evening:
CW: +50, Fox: + 3, CBS: – 3, ABC: -10. NBC: -11,

Ratings Breakdown:
In series premiere news, Fox drama “Almost Family” was left at the overnight starting gate with a fourth-place 2.2 rating/4 share in households in the 9 p.m. hour. Comparably, this was 29 percent below the 3.1/ 5 for year-ago time period occupant “Star.” And the retention out of lead-in “The Masked Singer” (#2: 5.3/ 9 at 8 p.m.) was just 42 percent. Since most new series drop by 10 to 20 percent in week two, “Almost Home” faces a steep uphill battle.

There were two season premieres last night (and both on CBS): “SEAL Team” (#2: 3.5/ 6 at 9 p.m.) and relocated “S.W.A.T.” (#3: 2.9/ 5 at 9 p.m.). “SEAL TEAM” opened nine percent its year-ago return (3.2/ 5 on 10/04/18) and “S.W.A.T.” was close to overnight levels for former time period occupant “Criminal Minds.”

Earlier in the evening on CBS was veteran “Survivor” at a third-place 4.2/ 7 at 8 p.m. Surpisingly, the returns of former winners “Boston” Rob Marinao and Sandra Diaz-Twine is a positive twist.

Elsewhere, NBC scored a clean Wednesday household overnight sweep with its “Chicago” trio: “Chicago Med” (5.4/ 9 at 8 p.m.), “Chicago Fire” (5.3/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “Chicago PD” (4.2/ 8 at 10 p.m.). The CW offered night one of “The iHeart Radio Music Festival,” which averaged a 0.6/ 1 from 8-10 p.m. Week two of ABC drama “Stumptown” dropped to a 3.1/ 6 at 10 p.m. (#2), which was 11 percent below the 3.5/ 6 one week earlier. And ABC’s 8-10 p.m. sitcom block fared as follows:

Percent Change From Year-Ago Evening:

But NBC is the network to beat in adults 18-49 thanks to the 8-10 p.m. pairing of “The Voice” (#2: 6.4/11) and “This Is Us” (#2: 5.8/10).

At 10 p.m. on NBC was sophomore medicial drama “New Amsterdam” at a second-place 4.0/ 8, which bested week two of ABC drama “Emergence” (#3: 2.8/ 5) by 43 percent. Week-to-week, “Emergence” was down by 10 percent from its 3.1/ 6 debut.

Also in week two news was ABC sitcom “Mixed-ish” at a distant third-place 2.8/ 5 in the 9 p.m. half-hour, which was also down from premiere week by 10 percent. “Mixed-ish” led into parent series “Black-ish” at a 2.5/ 4 (#3t) at 9:30 p.m.).

Roseanne Who?: ‘The Conners’ In Season 2 Opens As The Highest Rated Broadcast Sitcom – Click HERE

Monday, September, 30, 2019

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 5.1/ 9, ABC: 4.8/ 8, CBS: 4.2/ 7, Fox: 4.1/ 7, CW: 0.5/ 1

Percent Change From the Year-Ago Week:
Fox: no change, ABC: – 8, CBS: -11, NBC: -19, CW: -29

Ratings Breakdown:
“The Voice” led NBC to week two Monday overnight victory, with a 6.0 rating/10 share in households from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was 20 percent above “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC (5.0/ 8). Both veteran competition series were on par with year-ago overnight levels.

In week two news, there was erosion as expected for the new quartet of Monday series. The advantage of the already modest starts for the fall was not too far to fall. CBS comedy “Bob Hearts Abishola” scored a fourth-place 4.0/ 7 at 8:30 p.m., which was completely compatible with lead-in “The Neighborhood” (#4: 4.1/ 7 at 8 p.m.) and nine percent below its week-ago opener (4.4/ 7 on Sept. 24).

Next on the Eye net, legal drama “All Rise” finished third with a 4.2/ 7 in the 9 p.m. hour, which was seven percent below the 4.5/ 7 last week.

On Fox, Monday 9 p.m. drama “Prodigal Son” was only seven percent below the week-ago 3.0/ 5. But that was a hefty 48 percent below lead-in “9-1-1” (#2: 5.4/ 9 at 8 p.m.) and 35 percent below “9-1-1” when it aired in this time period on the year-ago evening (4.6/ 9).

On NBC, week two of legal drama “Bluff City Law” remained the third-place option, with a 3.2/ 6 in the households in the 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, that trailed “Bull” on CBS (4.5/ 8) and “The Good Doctor” on ABC (4.2/ 8) by 29 percent and 24 percent, respectively. “Bluff City Law,” additionally, was 43 percent below former time period occupant “Manifest” one year earlier (5.6/ 9).

The bottom line: CBS duo “Bob Hearts Abishola” and “All Rise” could have a longer shelf life than “Prodigal Son” and “Bluff City Law.”

In season finale news was “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” on The CW at a 0.7/ 1 (#5) at 8 p.m. What follows is the breakdown by NBC and by half-hour for Monday, Sept. 30:

Fox: 8.9/16, CBS: 4.3/ 8, ABC: 3.7/ 7, NBC: 2.3/ 4, CW: 0.4/ 1

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
Fox: +19, CW: no change, ABC: -12, CBS: -25, NBC: -30

Ratings Breakdown:
There were five series premieres last night (“The Unicorn,” “Carol’s Second Act” and “Evil” on CBS; and “Perfect Harmony” and “Sunnyside” on NBC) and six season openers, but it was football that clearly dominated on Fox. The Philadelphia Eagles/Green Bay Packers match-up, which concluded at 12 a.m., scored a hefty (and approximate) 8.9 rating/16 share in the household overnights for the primetime (8-10 p.m.) portion. Full overnight results for the football game were not available.

In series premiere news, both new CBS comedies were adequately sampled. “The Unicorn” out of the third season premiere of “Young Sheldon” (#2: 5.8/10), now at 8 p.m., held 74 percent of the lead-in with a 4.3/ 7 (#3) at 8:30 p.m. While “Young Sheldon” was solid, it was also 31 percent below “The Big Bang Theory” on the year-ago evening (8.4/14 on 9/27/19).

“Carol’s Second Act” on CBS at 9:30 p.m. also scored a 4.3/ 7 in the household overnights, which ranked second in the time period. But the retention out of the season-premiere of “Mom” (#2: 4.8/ 8 at 9 p.m.) was significantly stronger at 90 percent. That is impressive.

At 10 p.m., the series premiere of CBS drama “Evil” won the hour with a 3.4/ 7 in households. Comparably, that bested the season premieres of NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU” (#2: 3.2/ 6) and the final season of ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder” (#3: 2.0/ 4) by 6 percent and 70 percent, respectively. “Evil,” however, opened 13 percent below former time period occupant “S.W.A.T.” on the year-ago evening (3.9/ 7). Keep in mind, of course, that most new series drop 10 to 20 percent in week two.

On NBC, the positive news for the launch of comedy “Perfect Harmony” (#4: 2.2/ 4 at 8:30 p.m.) was full overnight retention out of the season-premiere of “Superstore.” But, let’s face it…a 2.2 rating is nothing to boast about. “Sunnyside” at 9:30 p.m. was left at the starting gate with a mere 1.4/ 2 (#4) out of a 1.9/ 3 for the season premiere of critically acclaimed “The Good Place” (1.9/ 3 at 9 p.m.). Once again, NBC’s biggest obstacle is finding an audience for its comedies.

In a night of season premiere installments of ABC, veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” opened season 16 with a solid 5.1/ 9 (#2t) at 8 p.m., which led into a 4.0/ 7 (#3) for compatible season two of “A Million Little Things” at 9 p.m.

The CW featured the season (or series) finale of drama “The Outpost,” which scored a typically unimpressive 0.4/ 1 at 9 p.m. (#5).

Wednesday, September 25, 2019

Household Rating/Share
Fox: 5.8/10, NBC: 5.0/ 9, CBS: 3.5/ 6, ABC: 3.1/ 5, CW: 0.5/ 1

Percent Change From Year-Ago Evening:
Fox: +41, CW: no change, NBC: – 6, ABC: -16, CBS: -17

Ratings Breakdown:
The second season premiere of “The Masked Singer” led Fox to opening Wednesday overnight victory, with a 5.8 rating/10 share in households from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, this was 41 percent above the year-ago combination of dramas “Empire” and “Star.” Look for a victory for Fox as well in adults 18-49 (and all the key demos).

NBC had a night of positive news care of the season premiere installments of the “Chicago” trio: “Chicago Med” (#2: 5.3/ 9 at 8 p.m.), “Chicago Fire” (#2: 5.2/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “Chicago PD” (#1: 4.6/ 9 at 10 p.m.). The compatibility of three dramas, no doubt, is flawless.

In series premiere news, ABC crime solver “Stumptown” was sampled with a 3.5/ 6 in households at 10 p.m. While that is nothing to boast about, it was 52 percent above the second season premiere of lead-in sitcom “Single Parents” (#4: 2.3/ 4 at 8:30 p.m.).

The other weak comedy link of ABC was “Schooled,” which opened with a mere 2.4/ 4 at 8:30 p.m. (#4). Comparably, that was 27 percent below the season premiere of parent “The Goldbergs” (#4: 3.3/ 6 at 8 p.m.). Note to ABC: Renewing “The Kids Are Alright” would have been a better option.

ABC’s “Modern Family,” meanwhile, opened its final season with a 3.4/ 6 in households (#4) in the 9 p.m. half-hour.

On CBS, a 90-minute installment of veteran “Survivor” returned with s 4.1/ 7 in households from 8-9:30 p.m., which was 13 percent below the 4.7/ 8 one year earlier. That led into the 90-minute season finale of “Big Brother,” which with weaker lead-in support dipped to a 2.9/ 5 from 9:30-11 p.m. Comparably, that was 19 percent below the 3.6/ 6 on the year-ago evening. Bravo to “Big Brother” for addressing the bullying and racism that went on in the house early in the season. While Jackson may have won the $500,000, it is underdog Nicole that was America’s choice and the bigger winner. Note to Allison Grodner: Please let Jackson Michie fade into oblivion (as well as that early alliance of six).

The CW, which is avoiding the competition this week, featured a repeat of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (#5: 0.6/ 1 at 8 p.m.) into “Hypnotize Me” (#5: 0.4/ 1 at 9 p.m.).

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC, of course, was the network to beat with the season-finale of summer favorite “America’s Got Talent” at a hefty 7.4 rating/13 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. ET. But the series premiere/preview of upcoming NBC late night entry “A Little Late 2ith Lilly Singh” fumbled the lead-in support with a modest 1.8/ 4 (#2t) in the 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, that was 73 percent below the 9:30 p.m. portion of “AGT” (7.9/14). “A Little Late with Lilly Singh” airs weeknights at 1:35 a.m. ET.

Also concluding for the season was Fox’s veteran “Masterchef” at a 2.7/ 5 from 8-10 p.m. The 8-9 portion of “Masterchef” (2.6/ 5) trailed competing “Big Brother” on CBS (#2: 3.3/ 6) by 21 percent.

Household Rating/Share
ABC: 4.8/ 8, NBC: 2.7/ 5, CBS: 2.5/ 4, Fox: 1.7/ 3, CW: 0.6/ 1

Note: Change versus the year-ago week is excluded because NBC aired The Primetime Emmy Awards.

Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy overnight victory for ABC, which featured the season premiere of veteran “Dancing With the Stars” at a 6.3 rating/11 share in households from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, this was a rise of nine percent from the year-ago season-opener (5.8/ 9 on Sept. 24, 2018). Keep in mind, however, that the 2018 “Dancing With the Stars” season premiere aired on the first night of the new TV season opposite season opening programming on the broadcast nets (including “The Voice” on NBC). Let’s see what happens next week when “The Voice” returns.

Despite the lead-in support, 10 p.m. ABC special “Beyoncé Presents: Making the Gift” took a backseat to an encore telecast of CBS’ “Bull” with a modest 1.9/ 4.

On NBC, two hours of “American Ninja Warrior” rose to a season high 3.3/ 6 from 8-10 p.m., which could translate into an adult 18-49 victory opposite “Dancing With the Stars.”

Fox’s veteran “So You Think You Can Dance” closed its season with a quiet 1.7/ 3 from 8-10 p.m. And it was overnight business as usual on this third Monday in September as follows:

8:00 p.m.
ABC – “Dancing With the Stars” (season premiere): 6.7/12 (#1)
CBS – “The Neighborhood” (R): 2.3/ 4 (#3)
NBC – American Ninja Warrior”: 3.3/ 6 (#2)
