Total Viewers:
Fox: 8.15 million, CBS: 5.10, ABC: 3.59, NBC: 3.01, CW: 459,000

Adults 18-49:
Fox: 2.1 rating/15 share, NBC: 0.5/ 4, ABC and CBS: 0.5/ 3 each, CW: 0.1/ 0

It was no contest, with the Seattle Seahawks vs. the Los Angeles Rams enough to beat the four competing networks combined in adults 18-49. See network averages above.

In series-premiere news, one hour of CBS comedy “Ghosts” had modest sampling with an average 5.34 million viewers (#2) and a 0.5 rating/4 share (#4) in adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m. ET. While this was a slight total viewer increase over the season premiere of sophomore sitcom lead-in “United States of Al” (Viewers: #2, 4.74 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.5/ 3 at 8:30 p.m.), keep in mind that most new series drop 10 to 20 percent in week two.

Earlier in the evening on CBS was the season-opening installment of “Young Sheldon” (Viewers: #2, 6.89 million; A18-49: #2, 0.7/ 5 at 8 p.m.), which was on par with its year-ago opener. Airing out of the “Ghosts” double-pop was the season premiere of drama “Bull” at 4.13 million viewers (#2) and a 0.3/ 3 in the demo (#3t) at 10 p.m. At this point, this should clearly be the final season of “Bull.”

On ABC. veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” is showing its age, which does not benefit the sophomore season of relocated drama lead-out “Blue Sky.” Take a look at the alphabet net for the evening:

Thursday/ABC
8:00 p.m. “Station 19”
Viewers: 4.14 million (#3), A18-49: 0.5/ 4 (#3)

9:00 p.m. “Grey’s Anatomy”
Viewers: 3.88 million (#3), A18-49: 0.6/ 4 (#2t)

10:00 p.m. “Blue Sky”
Viewers: 2.74 million (#4), A18-49: 0.3/ 2 (#4)

Elsewhere, granddaddy “Law & Order: SVU” on NBC (Viewers: #4, 3.70 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.6/ 4 at 9 p.m.) was virtually identical to competing “Grey’s Anatomy.” But sophomore spin-off “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (Viewers: #3, 3.06 million; A18-49: #2, 0.5/ 4 at 10 p.m.) was a stronger option than ABC’s competing “Blue Sky” at 10 p.m. NBC opened the evening with an encore telecast of “SVU.”

Observing the half-hour breakdowns of ABC and NBC:

On The CW, drama “Coroner” (Viewers: #5, 590,000; A18-49: #5, 0.1/ 1 at 8 p.m.) led into the series finale of “The Outpost” (Viewers: #5, 329,000; A18-49: #5, 0.0/ 0 at 9 p.m.).

On CBS, the network offered two-hour special “The Price Is Right Celebrates 50 Years”, which averaged 3.80 million viewers (#3) and a 0.5/ 3 in the demo (#2t) from 9-11 p.m. It aired out of two encore telecasts of “Young Sheldon.” Next week, CBS will feature the one-hour premiere of comedy “Ghosts” in the 9 p.m. hour out of the season premieres of “Young Sheldon” and “United States of Al” and into the season premiere of drama “Bull.”

Elsewhere, dramas “Coroner” (Viewers: 750,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 1 at 8 p.m.) and “The Outpost” (Viewers: 504,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 0 at 9 p.m.), as expected, generated minimal interest. Both were buried in fifth place. And Fox featured repeats of recently introduced “The Big Leap” and “Our Kind of People.” Next week, Fox will be on the map care of Thursday Night Football, the Los Angeles Rams versus the Seattle Seahawks.

Thursday 9/23/21
Fast Affiliate Ratings

Total Viewers:
NBC: 5.14 million, Fox: 3.33, CBS: 2.80, ABC: 2.14, CW: 501,000

Adults 18-49:
NBC: 0.7 rating/6 share, Fox: 0.7/ 5, ABC and CBS: 0.4/ 3 each, CW: 0.1/ 0

As always, keep in mind that the fast affiliate rating results from Nielsen are time period based and, therefore, only an approximate first look at what lies ahead. And, of course, there are other factors to consider other than these Nielsen results.

NBC topped this first Thursday of the new TV season care of the season premiere installments of veteran “Law & Order: SVU” (two-hours – Viewers: #1, 5.55 million; A18-49: #2, 0.8 rating/6 share from 8-10 p.m.) and sophomore “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (Viewers: #1, 4.32 million; A18-49: #1, 0.6/ 5 at 10 p.m.).

The “SVU” episode built throughout the two-hour period:

8:00 p.m.: Viewers: 5.19 million (#1), A18-49: 0.7 rating/6 share (#3)
8:30 p.m.: Viewers: 5.34 million (#2), A18-49: 0.7 rating/6 share (#2)
9:00 p.m.: Viewers: 5.68 million (#1), A18-49: 0.8 rating/6 share (#1)9:30 p.m.: Viewers: 5.90 million (#1), A18-49: 0.9 rating/6 share (#1)

“Organized Crime” easily led the broadcast networks in the 10 p.m. hour:

10:00 p.m.: Viewers: 4.56 million (#1), A18-49: 0.7 rating/5 share (#1)
10:30 p.m.: Viewers: 4.09 million (#1), A18-49: 0.6 rating/5 share (#1)

Fox was on the fast affiliate ratings map thanks to another original airing of “The Masked Singer” (Viewers: #2, 4.37 million; A18-49: #1, 0.9/ 7 at 8 p.m.). But a second dose of new singing competition “Alter Ego” squandered the lead-in support with a modest 2.30 million viewers (#3) and a 0.4/ 2 in the demo (#2) at 9 p.m. Haven’t we had enough of all these singing competitions? Answer: Yes!

ABC, which does not debut its regularly scheduled primetime Thursday line-up until next week, filled the night with the season-ending episodes of “Holey Moley” (Viewers: #4, 2.59 million; A18-49: #4, 0.4/ 3 at 8 p.m.) and “The Hustler” (two episodes – Viewers: avg. #4, avg. 1.92 million; A18-49: #3, avg. 0.3/ 2 from 9-11 p.m.).

On CBS, after watching “Big Brother” for 20 years (yes…every episode!) I was finally happy to see an evicted houseguest (Kyland) none too pleased about leaving. The installment scored 3.49 million viewers (#3) and a 0.8/ 6 in adults 18-49 (#2) at 8 p.m. And it led into 9 p.m. ET special, “Kenny Rogers: All In For the Gambler”, which dipped to 2.88 million viewers (#2) and a 0.3/ 2 in the demo (#3t) at 9 p.m. “Bull” at 10 p.m. was a repeat. CBS does not feature its regularly scheduled Thursday night line-up until October 7.

The CW capped off the night with original episodes of dramas “Coroner” (Viewers: 501,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 0 at 8 p.m.) and “The Outpost” (Viewers: 551,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 0 at 9 p.m.).

Thursday 9/09/21 Fast Affiliate Ratings

Total Viewers:
NBC: 21.17 million, CBS: 2.35, ABC: 1.56, Fox: 935,000, CW: 622,000

Adults 18-49:
NBC: 6.2 rating/39 share, CBS: 0.4/ 2, ABC: 0.2/ 2, Fox: 0.2/ 1, CW: 0.1/ 1

The power of the linear broadcast platform was in full view last night care of Dallas at Tampa Bay on Thursday Night Football on NBC at an estimated 21.17 million viewers and a 6.2 rating/39 share in adults 18-49 in primetime. Results for any live sporting event, of course, are estimated. Then, the question to ponder is would a live sporting event of this magnitude attract as many eyeball if it was digital only. My prediction is no it would not.

Elsewhere, CBS featured a live double eviction of “Big Brother”, which finished second in the 8 p.m. hour with 3.70 million viewers and a 0.8/ 5. Speaking as a die-hard fan, this was the most monotonous double eviction episode I have ever seen. We already knew what the outcomes would be. Airing out of “Big Brother” was a half-hour CBS Fall TV Preview, which dropped to 1.87 million viewers (#2) and a 0.2/ 1 in the demo (#2t). My prediction for the first new network series to be canceled is CBS comedy “Ghosts.”

ABC had nothing unusual to report care of “Holey Moley” (Viewers: #3, 2.29 million; A18-49: #3, 0.4/ 2 at 8 p.m.), “When Nature Calls With Helen Mirren” (Viewers: #3, 1.17 million; A18-49: #2, 0.2/ 1 at 9 p.m.) and “The Hustler” (Viewers: #3, 1.21 million; A18-49: #2, 0.2/ 1 at 10 p.m.). The CW featured dramas “Coroner” (Viewers: 804,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 1 at 8 p.m.) and “The Outpost” (Viewers: 439,000; A18-49: 0.1/ 1 at 9 p.m.). And Fox was in repeats.
