March 18 was Selection Monday for the 64 women’s teams; their seedings and regions were announced for the upcoming annual tournament to ultimately determine college’s women’s national champion in Division I basketball.

There will be 63 tournament games televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3. The tournament’s early round games will air regionally, according to its suitable television market.

Two-time national champion Baylor is the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. Baylor (31-1) is joined by defending national champion Notre Dame, Louisville and Mississippi State on the No. 1 seed line.

Longtime favorite UConn isn’t among the region No. 1 seeds for the first time since 2006.

The Final Four semifinal and national championship title games will be held at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida on Friday Apr. 5 and Sunday Apr. 7 — all three games will air on ESPN.

March 12 was Selection Monday for the 64 women’s teams; their seedings and regions were announced for the upcoming annual tournament to ultimately determine college’s women’s national champion in Division I basketball.

There will be 63 tournament games televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3. The tournament’s early round games will air regionally, according to its suitable television market.

The bracket’s overall No. 1 seed, the undefeated UConn Huskies (32-0 for 2017-18), are aiming to earn their twelfth national championship overall in their lauded school history.

The top five for Feb. 12-18 remained unchanged with the UConn Huskies leading the way as the unanimous choice from the 32-member national media panel. Mississippi State, Baylor, Louisville and Notre Dame round out the first five teams in the poll.

No. 7 UCLA changed places with No. 8 South Carolina from last week, and South Florida re-entered the poll at No. 22 after beating then-No. 13 Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 11.

The Belmont Bruins (No. 24) are in the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time in school history. “It’s a huge honor to think of all the teams and players who have come through the program, for this to be the first team that’s ranked that’s special,” first-year coach Bart Brooks said Monday. “It’s a cool thing to be a part of.” Brooks is no stranger to the Top 25, having been an assistant coach at DePaul for many years where the Blue Demons were consistently ranked. He inherited a Bruins team that is 24-3 this season and has won 39 consecutive Ohio Valley Conference games — the second longest active conference streak behind only No. 1 UConn. As of Feb. 12, they also have won 15 consecutive games overall and their only losses this season have come to Oklahoma, Stanford and Wright State.
