The puck drops on the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs on ESPN with 13 first round games will play out over the first four days on ESPN and ESPN2, beginning Monday, April 17.

Warner Bros. Discovery Sports will drop the puck on its Sports Emmy-nominated coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with up to 28 First Round games, starting Tuesday, April 18, and will continue with a 15-game slate over five days (Apr. 20-24).

TNT and TBS will combine to televise up to 56 games during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, culminating with TNT’s first-ever presentation of the Stanley Cup Final.

Eastern Conference

  • The Boston Bruins enter the Stanley Cup Playoffs after the most successful regular season in NHL history, setting single-season records for wins and points. Led by 60-goal scorer David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand, the Bruins – this season’s Presidents’ Trophy winner – face a Florida Panthers team that made a late season push to secure the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. While Florida played nowhere near their Presidents’ Trophy caliber from a season ago, Matthew Tkachuk still had an MVP-like season with 109 points.
  • For first round matchup between the Metropolitan Division-winning Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Islanders: the Hurricanes, led by Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho, earned a playoff berth for the fifth-consecutive season and now own their sixth division title in franchise history, while the Islanders earned the top Eastern Conference wild card spot behind the play of goalie Ilya Sorokin and Brock Nelson, who led the team in points, goals and assists.
  • Toronto faces a formidable and familiar foe in its first-round series versus Tampa Bay. The Lightning ousted the Maple Leafs in seven games during the opening round in 2022, en route to a third consecutive Eastern Conference crown in June.Led by the trio of Auston Matthews, Mitchell Marner and William Nylander, the Leafs – winners of four-straight to close out their regular season – hope to finally break the team’s first-round playoff curse when they take the ice against Nikita Kucherov and the Lightning, who came back to beat them in seven last year.
  • Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and the New York Rangers are set to collide with Jack Hughes and the New Jersey Devils in the seventh all-time “Hudson River Rivalry” postseason series – the first since the 2012 Conference Finals. The Devils finished second in the Metropolitan Division ahead of the Rangers but have a record of 1-1-1 against them in regular season play.

Western Conference

  • The defending Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche and winners of three-consecutive Central Division crowns will attempt to repeat their playoff performance from a year ago behind the play of Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen when they host the Seattle Kraken, who are headed to the postseason for the first time in only their second NHL season.
  • The Winnipeg Jets face the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time after meeting in the 2018 Western Conference Final. Led by Jack Eichel and Chandler Stephenson, the Golden Knights hope to repeat their 2018 performance against the Jets that led them to their historic Stanley Cup Final berth in their inaugural season.
  • The Dallas Stars and team points, goals and assists leader Jason Robertson head into the playoffs on a six-game winning streak when they play the Minnesota Wild and its points leader, Kirill Kaprizov, who is listed as day-to-day.
  • the Los Angeles Kings face off against the Edmonton Oilers and the all-star duo of Connor McDavid, who became the first player in 27 years to reach 150 points in a season, and 128-point scorer Leon Draisaitl, for the second time in as many seasons in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. While the teams spilt their regular-season matchups, the Oilers have gone on to become one of the hottest teams heading into the postseason – winning nine straight and 14 of their last 15 regular season games.

For the first time since 2004, the National Hockey League (NHL) returns to The Walt Disney Company.  ESPN will showcase the world’s best hockey beginning with a season-opening doubleheader on October 12. The 2021-2022 season will showcase 103 exclusive regular season games across ESPN, ESPN+, Hulu and ABC. In addition, more than 1,000 out-of-market games will be available on ESPN+.

Beginning October 12, ESPN, ESPN+ and Hulu become the destination for Tuesday night hockey throughout the regular season. ESPN+ and Hulu will also showcase an exclusive game every Friday night until January, then every Thursday night for the remainder of the regular season. ABC will regularly carry Saturday games beginning in February.

Turner Sports, in its first season of NHL coverage, will feature a 50-game telecast schedule during the 2021-22 NHL regular season, starting Wednesday, Oct. 13, with a TNT opening week doubleheader featuring the New York Rangers visiting the Washington Capitals in one of the fiercest rivalries in sports at 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by the Colorado Avalanche and Nathan MacKinnon hosting the Chicago Blackhawks, with the anticipated Chicago debut of 2021-22 Vezina Trophy winner Marc-Andre Fleury, at 10 p.m.

Are you and your friends also hockey enthusiasts? Looking for unique gifts and medals for hockey players? Hockey custom race medals and custom made patches for awards and commemorations will definitely wow you!

TNT

The NHL on TNT’s weekly schedule will include exclusive coverage on 25 Wednesday nights throughout the season – including 15 doubleheaders. Starting in Spring 2022, the network will add seven weeks of Sunday afternoon telecasts for March and April.

TNT will be the home of the NHL’s marquee outdoor games this season:

* The 2022 Discover NHL Winter Classic will showcase the St. Louis Blues against the Minnesota Wild at Target Field – home of the Minnesota Twins – on Saturday, Jan. 1. The event will continue the tradition first established in 2008 of hosting regular season outdoor games at the start of the New Year. The start time of the game will be announced at a later date.
* The Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning will visit the Nashville Predators in the 2022 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. This year’s outdoor game will be played at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, home of the Tennessee Titans.
* The 2022 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic will return this season on Sunday, March 13, at 3 p.m. Emanating from Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario, the outdoor game will feature two teams making their first appearances: Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the Buffalo Sabres, who are also the first non-Canadian team to participate in the event.

Additional NHL on TNT schedule highlights:

* On Wednesday, Oct. 20, TNT will feature a second doubleheader in as many weeks to start the season with the Philadelphia Flyers hosting the Boston Bruins at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Blues visiting the Vegas Golden Knights at 10 p.m.
* The NHL on TNT debut of the expansion Seattle Kraken hosting the Blackhawks, featuring Patrick Kane and the anticipated return of Jonathan Toews, will take place Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 10 p.m.
* The Edmonton Oilers and the league’s two most recent Hart Memorial Trophy winners – Connor McDavid (2020-21) and Leon Draisaitl (2019-20) – will face five other former league MVPs:

* Last season’s best regular season team, the Presidents Trophy-winning Avalanche and NHL MVP finalist MacKinnon, will host their Central Division rival Dallas Stars and off-season addition Ryan Suter, Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 10 p.m.
* Two of the NHL’s Original Six teams will meet when the 2021 Stanley Cup Finalist Montreal Canadiens and star goaltender Carey Price host the Bruins and the NHL’s top left wing last season Brad Marchand, Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. Later at 10 p.m., the Original Six franchise Maple Leafs will visit the Arizona Coyotes.
* Last season’s goal-scoring champion and NHL MVP finalist Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs will visit star left winger Artemi Panarin and the Rangers in another Original Six matchup, Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
* The return to play following the Winter Olympic break will include a doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 23 – Oilers at Lightning at 7:30 p.m. – followed by the Los Angeles Kings at Arizona Coyotes at 10 p.m.
* A blockbuster doubleheader on Wednesday, March 16, will feature the Bruins visiting the Wild and 2020-21 Calder Memorial Trophy recipient Kirill Kaprizov at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Lightning taking on the Kraken at 10 p.m.
* A rematch of last year’s thrilling seven-game Stanley Cup Playoffs semifinal series – the Lightning at New York Islanders – will be held Sunday, March 27, at 2 pm.
* The NHL on TNT regular season schedule will conclude with a meeting of in-state rivals – Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers – Sunday, April 24, at 4 p.m.

STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS

The NHL’s Stanley Cup Final and Stanley Cup Playoffs action will return to the ABC and ESPN networks – including exclusive coverage of the Stanley Cup Final in four of the seven years of the deal – beginning with the 2021-22 season. Additionally, in each season of the agreement, ESPN and ABC will have live, exclusive coverage of one Conference Final series and half of all First Round and Second Round games from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Turner Sports’ multi-year NHL agreement will include crowning a champion through its exclusive live coverage of the Stanley Cup Final on TNT in three of the next seven years; half of the Stanley Cup Playoffs each year (half of the Conference Finals, First and Second Round games); and expansive digital and highlight rights for Bleacher Report, House of Highlights and additional platforms.

NBC Sports is scheduled to televise 109 NHL regular-season games during the 2018-19 season – its most since acquiring NHL rights prior to the 2005-06 season. Coverage begins Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, when Alex Ovechkin and the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals raise their championship banner to the rafters and host the Boston Bruins.

All games will be streamed live on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app to authenticated users via TV Everywhere.

NBC Sports’ 2018-19 NHL schedule is highlighted by the debut of “Wednesday Night Hockey” on NBCSN, which will showcase the network’s most diverse schedule — the widest variety of teams to date on Wednesday nights, including multiple appearances by Tampa Bay, Colorado, Toronto, Vegas, Edmonton, Nashville, and Winnipeg — since it acquired NHL rights prior to the 2005-06 season, as well as NHL’s current and rising stars.

The defending champion Washington Capitals lead all teams with eight “Wednesday Night Hockey” appearances.

Notable games on the “Wednesday Night Hockey” schedule include:

October 10 – A 2018 Stanley Cup Final rematch between the Vegas Golden Knights and Washington Capitals;

October 24 – Two of the best young stars in the NHL will clash when Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs visit Patrik Laine and the Winnipeg Jets;

January 23 – Ovechkin and the Capitals host Matthews and the Maple Leafs, followed by a battle out west between P.K. Subban and the Nashville Predators vs. Marc-Andre Fleury and the Golden Knights;

February 13 – Three-time Stanley Cup champion Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins host Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers in Edmonton’s only visit to Pittsburgh;

March 20 – A rematch of the 2018 Eastern Conference Final, as Ovechkin and the Capitals host Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Following are highlights of NBC Sports’ 2018-19 NHL regular-season schedule:

The season opens with a “Wednesday Night Hockey” doubleheader on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN as the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals host the Boston Bruins, followed by the Anaheim Ducks vs. San Jose Sharks at 10:30 p.m. ET;

NBC Sports will present the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic between the Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks from iconic Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind., on Jan. 1, 2019, at 1 p.m. ET on NBC;

NBC Sports will present exclusive primetime coverage of the 2019 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers from Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC;

The 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs continue with Conference Final action as it’s now down to the final four.

In the East, the Tampa Bay Lightning were a popular pick to reach and/or win the Stanley Cup in pre-season predictions, while their opponent this series, the Washington Capitals finally defeated their longtime postseason rival Pittsburgh Penguins and reached their first conference final in 20 years.

The Western Conference Final features two of the unlikeliest teams to reach this point: the expansion Vegas Golden Knights and the Winnipeg Jets. Back in August 2017, the Jets (at 40-1 odds) — which missed last year’s NHL postseason — and the Golden Knights (200-1) — which did not yet have players, as of one year prior — were both considered long shots to win the Stanley Cup.

NBC and NBCSN are the NHL’s exclusive broadcast networks for the rest of the playoffs in the United States. In Canada, it’s SportsNet, CBC and OMNI.
